Many fish hatcheries and/or fish farms are located along rivers or lakes for easy access to a continuous supply of fresh water. The incoming water may contain pebbles, grass, twigs, and other particles while the outgoing water may hold fish waste. The water usage may be regulated by local authorities. The waste water may need to be monitored for quality and quantity. Flow measurements for influent and effluent from these applications are best made with a paddlewheel (if the water is screened or filtered) or a magmeter. The magmeter may be a better choice if there are many particles in the water.
Measurements in fish hatcheries and fish farms:
Flow:
Monitor the amount of influent water from the municipal source to the storage tanks.
Monitor effluent discharge to comply with discharge limits
pH: Monitor the quality of the discharge water back into the environment
