Troubleshooting the 2551 and 2552 Magmeters

The Signet 2551 and 2552 Magmeters feature two LED lights that are designed to assist in troubleshooting a problem system.
Knowing what the different light displays mean can be extremely helpful in resolving field problems.

The lights on the 2551 Magmeter are located on the circuit board inside the yellow enclosure. |

The lights on the 2552 Metal Magmeter are located at the top of the magmeter, recessed inside the threaded steel housing. Look down the tube to see them. |
Troubleshooting with the RED and BLUE lights |
| No Lights: |
The power is off or the sensor is not connected.
Frequency and Digital (S3L) Magmeters: Check for 5 VDC at BLACK (+) and WHITE (GND) wires.
4-20 mA Magmeters: Check for 24 VDC at BLACK (+) and WHITE (GND) wires. |
| Solid Blue: |
The power is on but there is no flow in the pipe.
This is the normal indication when the pipe is full, but the water is not moving.
If there is flow in the pipe, look for shorted electrodes at the tip of the mag sensor. |
| Blinking Blue: |
Normal operation, blink rate is proportional to the flow rate.

| Alternating Red-Blue: |
Empty pipe indication (electrodes are not wet.)
Look for air pockets at the sensor location.
|
| Blinking Red: |
System errors (electrical noise interference)
This indicates a problem with the power source and/or the grounding points in the Magmeter wiring. |
| Solid Red: |
Instrument error (defective electronics component)
The magmeter is inoperative and must be returned to the factory for service. |
