El Monte, Calif., – Jan. 3, 2008 – GF Piping Systems’ Signet 2552 Metal Magmeter, the company’s most recent innovation in electromagnetic insertion flow sensing technology, has been named as one of the winners in Processing magazine’s 10th Annual Breakthrough Product of the Year Competition.  This prestigious award competition recognizes industry’s most significant and unique products in the process industry.

Product nominations for the Processing competition were accepted from manufacturers and users who were required to complete a stringent four-part questionnaire that described the uniqueness of the nominated technology.  Customer testimonials included in the nomination were also an important factor in the judged entries.  The Signet 2552 Magmeter earned recognition as one of only six winning products.  Other winning products included a pharmaceutical feeder, radar level transmitter, progressive cavity pump and a control valve station for improving steam quality.  All these award-winning products were prominently displayed on Processing magazine’s December cover and detailed on subsequent pages.

The patented technology of the Signet 2552 Metal Magmeter is the most unique part of the design.  The patent calls out a molding technique for manufacturing the two metal electrodes into the plastic nose piece at a fixed distance.  This allows manufacturing of a high quality product in a repeatable manner and is responsible for the product’s outstanding performance characteristics, which include repeatability of ± 0.5 percent of reading at 25° C and superior linearity of ±1 percent plus 0.01 m/s of reading.  A second unique feature of the Magmeter is its adjustable configuration, which allows easy hot-tap installation without disrupting the flow through the pipe, providing reduction in overall costs and process interruption. Sensor installation is accomplished without any special tools via a simple turn of the “Hub” in pipes with pressures up to 300 psi.
